SYMODE [2017]
Experimenting with the culture of pattern and the various modes in which it is used to communicate, I play with forms of pattern that stem from different cultures and apply these through different modes to and within the neo-classical building located across the parliament building in downtown Ottawa. The patterns are often rendered out of proportion and taken out of context from their original intent and material. This mode of application was inspired by the change in patterns throughout history. Patterns evolved often through generational reinterpretations as the result of migrations. Relocations are a catalyst for change as new resources and materials allow for evolving patterns and inspirations.
